The loss of criminal case dockets will soon be a thing of the past as the South African Police Service (SAPS) are working on developing a system to enhance service delivery.
Tabling his department’s Budget Vote in Parliament yesterday, Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa said the loss of dockets continues to be a serious problem.
Under this system, dockets will be scanned into the electronic version and kept in the court's electronic files, to avoid cases being struck off the roll or postponed due to the loss of dockets.
It will also help to synchronise information between correctional services and the prosecution, to avoid delays which could arise when prisoners are required to appear in the courts at particular times.
