Lusanda Bill
18 November 2010
Woman, Children and Persons with Disabilities Minister Lulu Xingwana is regarding the high number of infants being discarded in the Western Cape as a top priority.
She said she has contemplated on setting up a hotline to help tackle the plague of mothers who dump their babies.
Yesterday a baby was found in Parow, dumped in a bag. The baby boy was found by a factory worker and he was still alive.
This comes after MEC for Social Development Patricia de Lille had held an emergency summit a few weeks ago to raise awareness around baby dumping.
Minister Lulu Xingwana is calling on community workers and local NGOs to help reduce the problem.
