A Thai national has pleaded guilty to 26 charges related to the illegal export of rhino horn.

Chumlong Lemthongthai confessed in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court but said he was acting on the instruction of his company director in Thailand.

The Charges against his alleged three accomplices, including game farmer Marnus Steyl, were withdrawn.

Animal Africa Activist Miranda Jordan said South Africans want to see the justice being done and the system should make an example of all rhino poachers.

Jordan added that he should be given a sentence that will send a strong message about the abuse of animals by particularly the foreign nationals from Asia.
