The Commission for Gender Equality says although the 50/50 gender parity has not been reached in the new cabinet it is encouraged that it would be reached.

The new cabinet comprise of 15 female minister compared to the last cabinet which only had a third.

CGE Spokesperson Javu Baloyi said it is important for government to make sure that gender equality is promoted, protected and advanced in the face of competing priorities.

Baloyi said we are cautiously optimistic that in the next election there will be high numbers of women as well as the gender parity being reached or even exceeded.

“That is something that we strive for as a commission and therefore applaud President Jacob Zuma for his doings Baloyi added.
