IPID arrested a Constable in connection with a truck blast

On October the 22^nd a truck carrying about 36 detainees from Randburg Magistrate court to Johannesburg Correctional Services exploded.

Three detainees died and others were injured.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate together with the South African Police Services started with their investigation that led to the arrest of a Constable.

The 29 year old officer was arrested on Monday.

IPID Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the officer has been implicated in the smuggling of the explosive device used in the attempted escape.

Dlamini further said the officer will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

The Constable will face 3 charges of murder, 29 charges of attempted murder, 1 charge of unlawful possession of explosives.

Dlamini added that their investigation continues and other arrests are possible.
