The Community Safety Bill, a unique piece of proposed legislation aimed at creating a clear working relationship between the South African Police Service, the provincial oversight responsibilities and the public, took a further step forward this week.

The DA Western Cape spokesperson Mark Wiley said the Bill makes provision for an Ombudsman that will report to the Provincial Parliament, for clear roles and functions for CPFs and Neighbourhood Watches vis-a-vis SAPS.

"We feel now we are at a position which we are able to proceed to the next stage of the process which is to do a motion of desirability" Wiley said.

Wiley added that their committee meeting will take place on March the 5th.
