State Security tightens security against terrorism

The Department of Home Affairs is continuing with investigation into the South African passport linked to Samantha Lewthwaite who is believed to have entered Kenya on a fraudulent South African passport under the name Natalie Faye Webb.

Minister of Home Affairs Naledi Pandor said once they are ready they will make a statement what they have established through the investigation.  

Pandor said in the meantime the department has improved security with respect to acquisition of passport as well as all the procedures relevant to application for passport and checking, utilizing biometric checks as to the background of persons who present themselves at the offices.

Meanwhile Minister of State Security Siyabonga Cwele said South Africans should not fear treats of terrorism.

The state agency’s are working together to ensure that there is no destabilization in South Africa.

Cwele said at this stage they would not like to divulge the details as there are several investigations that are being conducted and any information would jeopardize the investigations.
