WCED: Mathematics important for development and progress for WC

Today the National Senior Certificate will be writing Mathematics Paper 1. 

Western Cape Department said mathematics is an important subject to the development and progress of the province. 

MEC of Education Donald Grant said he hopes to see further increases in the number of candidates passing maths this year. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said as the WC government, we are working hard to encourage more learners to take mathematics so that we can grow our future economic workforce.

“In the last two years we have seen increases in the number of people writing and passing Mathematics. The percentages pass rate has also increased from 68.7% to 73.5%,” Casey added.
