Premier Zille highlights need for more organ donors

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille said there is a high need for more organ donors in the country. 

She was speaking last week at a media conference which highlighted the desperate need of children on the transplant list who need life-saving organ transplant. 

Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital Spokesperson Angelique Jordaan said in South Africa over 4,300 are awaiting an organ and cornea transplant.

Safe seven life day highlights the fact that one donor can save seven lives by donating one heart, two lungs, two kidneys and one pancreas.

n South Africa less than 0.2% of the population is registered as organ donors while 4,300 are awaiting an organ and cornea transplant.
