Five mineworkers have been killed and one injured when ground fell on top of them late last night in Marikana Rustenburg.
The workers worked for Marikana operation which is owned by Aquarius Platinum. Two of the five bodies have been found and the search for the other three is still underway.
The one worker who was injured was immediately taken to hospital by emergency services.
National Union of Mineworkers Lesiba Seshoka has stated that NUM calls on all mining industries to insure the safety of their own work force, by putting in place monitoring systems that will assist workers to be aware of the dangers that would affect them before they happen.
This accident comes after several mining accidents have happened in the country in the past few months.
