The Democratic Alliance says the continuing transport strike violence is yet another example of the Police Minister’s inability to maintain public order.

DA Shadow Minister of Police Dianne Kohler Barnard said that the Police need to act harshly on the offenders.

The Road Freight Employers` Association on Tuesday said that three of the four unions representing the strikers have agreed to return to work.

Since the strike began two weeks ago about 24 trucks have been set alight in the Western Cape.

ohler Barnard also said that the public needs to be given an update on the ongoing strike, by the Police Minister and the National Police Commissioner, about the steps that have been taken in trying to resolve violence.
