The
South African Police Service Board of Commissioners, consisting of the generals
at national level and the nine Provincial Commissioners had its final meeting of
2013 yesterday.
The
Board of Commissioners was established in terms of the South African Police
Service Act and its primary function is to promote cooperation and coordination
within the SAPS.
National
Police Spokesperson Solomon Makgale said the meeting, in the main, deliberated
on the overall state of crime in the country over the past six months of the
current financial year and noted with concern the number of murders reported.
He
added that these murders are closely associated with the abuse of alcohol and
other social ills. The BOC committed itself to ensuring that the crime
prevention and combating initiatives for the festive season, which have already
been implemented, pays special attention to this.
