Two children tragically died after the raft they were on capsized at a resort near Fochville in the North West.

It is believed seven children aged between 15 and 17-years-old had been on a raft when the vessel capsized.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said one of the children managed to swim to shore before the paramedics arrived.

Meiring said one paramedic called for back up before he jumped into the water and he managed to save four learners and none of the paramedics were injured.

The cause of the incident is not known at this stage and the local authorities are investigating.
