DA: Gov needs to address service delivery failures in mining communities

Lusanda Bill
07 July 2014

The Democratic Alliance is calling for President Zuma to hold a special briefing to address the major service delivery failures in the mining communities of this country.

DA MP of Labour Ian Ollis said it is clear that government has failed to deal with socio-economic issues directly affecting the lives of mineworkers over the past 20 years.

Ollis said the President in his State of the Nation Address emphasised that they will do something for mineworkers to ease plight, and we have seen nothing tabled as yet.

“We believe that it is time for the President to brief the Labour Committee in Parliament as to what the plan is concerning this.  The CCMA told us that even a R12 500 minimum wage will not solve the problems in the mining community because many of these problems are social problems” Ollis added.
