More than 14 000 bottles of alcohol, which equates to 7 043 litres, were confiscated in the past two months by City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement Liquor Enforcement Unit.

According to statistics provided by the metro, this is just over four thousand litres, and half the number of bottles confiscated, compared to 2019.

Mayco Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, reminded Capetonians and visitors that alcohol is prohibited at City recreational facilities

He warned that anyone caught flouting the rules will be fined and their alcohol will be confiscated.

‘’We remind the public yet again, that alcohol is prohibited in public open spaces, including all of the City's beaches. For safety’s sake, please do not drink and drive or walk, ever, and do not consume alcohol in public spaces, particularly around water bodies,’’ said JP Smith, Mayco Member for Safety and Security.
