Western Cape police are investigating the cause of death of a 33-year-old police constable who was found in Lwandle, Strand on Christmas morning.
The police’s Novela Potelwa said the constable, who cannot
be named at this stage, as his next of kin still needs to be informed, had
worked until the early hours of Sunday.
‘’Through the SAPS employee, health and wellness officials,
contact is being made with the family of the deceased SAPS member. His identity
will be released once his next of kin has been informed,’’ said Brigadier
Novela Potelwa.
‘’Police are questioning an injured man from Lwandle while
Lingelethu West police are still reeling from shock following the discovery of
the body of their colleague in Lwandle on Sunday morning. The 33 year old police
constable who had worked until the early hours of Sunday morning had allegedly
suffered stab and gunshot wounds. His official firearm was taken and the state
vehicle he was driving found some metres from the body,’’ she added.
The police spokesperson said that robbery as a motive for
the murder cannot be ruled out at this stage of the investigation, and that the
Hawks have taken over the murder docket for further investigations with several
leads currently being pursued.
