Dozen firearms confiscated by CoCT within five days

City of Cape Town law enforcement agencies have confiscated at least a dozen firearms in the last five days.

Since 15 December, Law Enforcement officers recovered 10 firearms, and Metro Police recovered two firearms in Hanover Park.

The firearm confiscations took place in Delft, Hanover Park, the CBD, Mfuleni, Parklands, Philippi, Manenberg and Harare, Khayelitsha.

Metro Police officers also recovered an imitation firearm and various quantities of tik at an address in Heideveld, this morning.

Mayco member for safety and security, JP Smith, urged residents to report crime to local authorities

‘’While much of the focus this time of year is on festive-season related public safety matters, I hope this incredible work sends a signal to everyone that we are not taking our eye off the ball in our areas that are prone to high levels of gun violence.’’

‘’We also want to remind our communities that they too can be agents of change … by blowing the whistle on criminals in their surroundings, and the presence of illicit guns and drugs.’’

Residents can report crime and by-law offences anonymously, 24-hours a day, on 0800 11 00 77 if they want to participate in the City’s informant reward scheme. A reward of R5 000 will be paid, if the suspect has been successfully arrested.
