Khayelitsha Family of three dies in blaze

A family of three died on Monday morning after a fire ignited in the level 2 informal Settlement, Khayelitsha.

According to the Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse, the incident occurred at 05:10 am when a property was set alight opposite the Chuma Primary School.

Carelse said a Khayelitsha fire crew responded to the scene first and added that there were people missing.

“A Subsequent search of the property led to the discovery of the bodies  of the father, mother and young boy whom sustained fatal burn wounds. By 05:50 am, firefighters had managed to extinguish the blaze that destroyed the structure,” he said.

The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, as officials are investigating the matter.
