The City of Cape Town's Steenbras Nature Reserve has been temporarily closed due to the recent heavy rains the province has been experiencing.
The torrential rain has caused the Clarence Drive situated
at Gordon's Bay, to be closed, following rockfalls and mudslides
Mayco member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Eddie
Andrews said nature reserve staff will
conduct an assessment of the condition of the trail. He added hikers who have bookings for the
trail will be notified and their bookings will be rescheduled for a later date.
“The Steenbras Nature Reserve is a popular destination for
hikers and day visitors, and the closure of the trail comes during peak season.
The inconvenience is regretted, but we must put safety first to ensure that
visitors are not at risk. The closure will also permit the reserve staff to
effect necessary repairs caused by the flooding.”
“We look forward to welcoming visitors back to the reserve
once the trail and road access routes have been restored,” said Mayco member
for Spatial Planning and Environment, Eddie Andrews.
