Police officer remains in custody

A 28 year old police Constable has appeared in the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court today facing a charge of house robbery.

The suspect stationing at Lwandle police station was arrested on Monday following a further investigation by police about an incident that occurred in a house in Smuts Avenue, Somerset West last year.

It is allege two men, neatly dressed went to the house claiming they are investigating a case. They produced an ID card and a docket.

Police spokesperson Captain Anneke Van der Vyver say they soon afterwards, pointed the victims with a firearm and knife, demanding money and keys to the safe to the owners.

“They then tied the couple up with cable ties and a tapped their mouths,” she said.

One of the victims manage to activate the panic-button in her pocket and the suspects left the premises in a blue VW Golf.

They made their way with cash and jewellery to the value of R 3000,00.

The suspects were arrested soon after the incident and they are currently awaiting trail in Pollsmoor Prison.

The officer will remain in custody until his next court appearence on April 28.
