Truck driver in a stable condition

The three weeks long, truckers strike has resulted in more than 50 trucks set alight in Gauteng and the Western Cape.

About 20 000 truck drivers had been on strike for a 12 percent pay rise, while employers were offering 8.5 percent for next year, and another 0.5 percent in 2014.

A special team has been set up in Ekurhuleni to monitor the ongoing truck drivers strike. A truck driver has been hospitalised in Cape Town.

The 62 year-old`s truck was allegedly doused with petrol and set alight in Manenberg on Tuesday.

Western Cape Ministry of Health Spokensperson Helena Russouw said the truck driver was treated for burn wounds at GF Joost Hopsital.

Rossouw added that he is still in a stable condition at a private hopsital.
