The Western Cape Department of Transport released the death toll figures for the month of September.

Department spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said road deaths in the province in September rose by 20 percent when compared to the same period last year.

100 people died on Western Cape roads in September this year, whereas in 2011 in September 83 road deaths were recorded in the province.

Dube added that it is disappointing especially with all the safety campaigns the department did this year.

He said the department is still dedicated to decreasing road deaths in the province.
