The Food and Allied Workers Union on Saturday said the new minimum wage for all farm workers should be no less than R100 a day.
This comes after the farm workers` strike was called off in January; the workers were demanding salary increases of up R150 per day from between R69 and R75 a day.
The protests that turned violent resulted in the death of four people, some vineyards set alight and shops looted, in areas of De Doorns and Worcester in the Western Cape.
Fawu General Secretary Katishi Masemola said the minimum wage for all farm workers now should be R105 a day.
Masemola called on farm owners and government to work with the unions in ensuring that the farm workers` salary at a later stage is increase to R150 a day.
