The 249 meter container vessel, the MAERSK CADIZ was on its way from Tangyuan, Singapore to Walvis Bay, in Namibia.

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said he received medication by the EMS doctor on duty who was in communication with the ship.

Lambinon adds that the patient’s condition did not improve and it was decide on Sunday that he would be evacuated as earliest possible opportunity.

Lambinon added that the NSRI in Port Elizabeth launched their rescue craft to rendezvous with the ship and just offshore and they transferred the patient on to the rescue boat   and brought him to shore.

Lambinon said that he is being taken to his doctor by the ships agent, in a stable condition he is walking and they are expecting him to make a full recovery.
