The Railway Safety Regulator has issued a Prohibition Directive to the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa.

This comes after the train collision between Saulville and Cor Delfos last week.

The directive prohibits PRASA from operating trains on the affected line, until such a time that they make a presentation to the RSR, proving that the service is safe and conditions that contributed to the incident have been eliminated.

RSR Acting Communications Manager Babalwa Mpendu said RSR has further issued an improvement directive, which instructs Prasa to run their trains at a speed limit of 30km/h when working under abnormal conditions.

Mpendu also said Prasa also needs to ensure that each train has a working radio sets at all times and the deadline that has been put by RSR to Prasa for the working radio is the 1st of July 2013.
