Three people died in a fire in Mitchells Plain

Three people died and two others are in a critical condition in hospital, after a fire burnt their Tafelsig home in Mitchells Plain last night.

The City’s disaster response teams were called to assist the family in crisis with humanitarian relief aid consisting of food, blankets, clothing and building material; including trauma counselling.

Disaster Risk Management Centre spokesperson Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said a 67 year-old woman was admitted to GF Jooste hospital for further care.

Solomons-Johannes also said a seven year-old boy, who lost his mother in the fire is still in a critical condition at the Red Cross Children’s hospital.

Solomons-Johannes said the cause of the fire is not known at this stage and the police are investigating the incident.
