The strike by WasteMart which is one of the City of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Management Department contractors embarked on a strike on Thursday causing major disruption in the collection of refuse.

Acting Manager of Collections at the City’s Solid Waste Management Department Tseko Magubane said the city is making every effort to ensure minimal disruptions.

“There will be too much work to do and we will be starting with the work in the Helderburg area tomorrow.

The most affected area is Somerst West and Sir Lowry’s pass and they will be finished tomorrow. We encourage the residents to leave out their bins until they are collected” Magubane added.
