Two police officers were last night shot dead in Nyanga while on duty. Western Cape Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer said the two officers were called out to a compliant about a hijacked vehicle in the area.
When they arrived on the scene they
confirmed that the vehicle was indeed hijacked.
Lamoer said while the officers were waiting
in the police vehicle for a tow truck to come and pick up the vehicle for
further investigation, they were shot by an unknown suspect and their firearms
stolen.
“We really want to urge the community to
come forward with information that could lead to the arrest and successful conviction
of whoever did this” Lamoer added.
WC Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer said there
is a reward currently of R100 000 for any information to this effect. He added that this is a cowardly act by
criminals to attack the state and attack the people that must serve the community
if Nyanga.
