An accident involving a taxi and a truck left 16 people injured in Pinetown. It is believed that a taxi smashed into the side of a heavy goods truck on Fields Hill.

Netcare 911 Spokesperson Chris Botha said the Netcare rescue unit had to use the Jaws of Life to get the driver out of the taxi.

Botha said seven people sustained serious injuries and the others sustained minor injuries.

In another accident also in Fields Hill left six people injured on the M13 in KwaZulu Natal.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said four vehicles collided into each other in the middle lane.

Meiring said when they arrived on the scene they found that six people from the taxi and light motor vehicle had sustained only minor injuries.

“All the injured were treated on scene and then transported to a nearby hospital for the medical care that they required” Meiring added.

The exact details of the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
