The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in the Eastern Cape will be conducting a registration drive for backyard shack dwellers.

The registration will start as of next month.

With the assistance of Stats South Africa a two-day training programme was held with community members on how to collect data.

Municipality spokesperson Kupido Baron says the information will determine the exact amount of people in need of low cost housing.

Baron added that the aim of the drive is to get credible information regarding people living in the area.
