MEC applauds rescue staff that were involved in the operation in Hout Bay

The MEC for Economic Development and Tourism,Alan Winde on Tuesday commended the rescue staff who were involved in the rescue operation on the Miroshga Charter boat that capsized on Saturday.

The boat had capsized off the coast in Hout bay,it was carrying thirty-nine people.

Winde said that it is with regret that two people lost their lives in this incident.

The South African Maritime Safety Authority said the boat had a valid legal safety certificate and was certified to carry forty-two passengers and three crew members.

Winde added that Cape Town Tourism assisted with counseling, changes to flight bookings, travel plans and visas.
