The Rea Vaya bus drivers on Monday embarked on a strike in Johannesburg.

The drivers are demanding a wage increase of R3,000 a month.

The South African Municipal Workers' Union says its members are demanding a major increase after Rea Vaya bus dispatchers received a 40-percent wage hike.

The company’s Dumisani Mntambo said the workers demands are not possible.

Mntambo said the negotiations are expected to continue today and tomorrow.
