This week the Western Cape MEC for Education Donald Grant announced that 20 schools of the initial list of 27 schools will be closed at the end of the year.

Grant said the conditions in other schools can be fixed.

The South African Democratic Teachers Union threatened to protest the closure of these 20 schools.

The Democratic Alliance said strike action threats by the SA Democratic Teachers Union are hypocritically motivated.

DA’s Annette Lovemore said that the African National Congress government has closed thousands of schools across the country since 2009.

Lovemore added that Sadtu is just trying to score political points.
