Production at Toyota Prospecton plant in Durban has come to a standstill due to a strike by one of its component suppliers.

Toyota says members of the National Union of Metalworkers embarked on a protected strike at the Toyota Boshoku plant in Durban today.

Toyota Boshoku supplies seats and door panels for use in all locally produced vehicles.

Toyota says it is important to note that the strike was not instigated or supported by Toyota employees.
