The Western Cape Department of Agriculture will host the first Triennial Agriculture Summit next week in Stellenbosch.

Department Spokesperson Wouter Kriel said agriculture is extremely competitive; the profit margins are very low.

Kriel also said in the Western Cape, the agriculture sector is very export orientated.

Kriel said it is important for stakeholders in both the private and public sector to come together and discuss plans for future sustainability and profitability in the sector.

He added that a number of big topics will be up for discussion, including how to increase agricultural growth by ten-percent over the next ten years.
