Western Cape Community Safety Minister, Dan Plato, has urged communities to work closely with police to neutralise gang activities after five people were killed in Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats, Cape Town.

Plato was reacting to an outcry by community members about the spike of gang related violence.

Community leader, Faldielah Haupt, says residents live in daily fear for their lives.

Community members say gangs roam freely in the area. Five people were shot in suspected gang-related shootings last week and two of them died.

However Plato has urged communities to work with the police and provide the necessary information.
