Police in the North West arrested ten suspects this week for copper cable theft in Marikana and Aquarius mine.

Police managed to arrest the suspects after they received a tip-off of illegal activities taking place at one of the shafts of the mine.

Eight of the suspects are foreign nationals from Mozambique and Zimbabwe while two others are South Africans.

Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said Police recovered pots, torches and hacksaws, as well as tinned food, during the arrests.

Mokgwabone said some of the suspects were also found in possession of dagga.

Mokgwabone said the recovered cables weighed 5 380kg, with an estimated value of R109 000.

“The group was expected to appear in the Marikana Periodical Court on Monday to face charges of theft, possession of suspected stolen goods and possession of dagga Mokgwabone added.
