MEC Plato says safety of people in malls a priority

Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato said the safety of people in malls is of utmost important. MEC Plato said they will continue to monitor the role shopping centres, its management and their private security play. 

He added that it is everyone’s responsibility to help ensure safety where we live, work and shop. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said MEC Plato welcomes that all parties understands the seriousness of the situation and has undertaken to address the situation with urgency.

Botha said as part of the MEC’s oversight of issues in the province he will also be visiting shopping centres, as he believes this is a way of building partnerships between the private sector, SAPS and the Department of Community Safety in the Western Cape.
