The Outspoken Youth Initiative from Gugulethu are calling on the City of Cape Town to respond urgently to its grievances which were laid out on a memorandum handed over to the city almost two weeks ago.

On Thursday the city met with the group to try and resolve some of the issues they had including lack of communication with the sporting codes and the lack of resources and sporting equipment.

The group is also calling for the immediate removal of Monwabisi Planga who is the centre manager at the Gugulethu Sports Complex.  During the meeting a heated debate started and Area Manager Thabo Bidla walked out of the meeting with no conclusion being made.

City of Cape Town’s appointed facilitator for the meeting Trevor Steyn said it is now time to move forward and set up a meeting whereby all facility users and organisations will be present.

Steyn said the meeting should look at the role of the area manager so that people can understand that and also to allow people to be held accountable, as community members need answers.
