NPA considering to appeal or not appeal Oscar Pistorius sentencing

The National Prosecuting Authority today said they are considering whether it will appeal or not appeal the sentencing of Oscar Pistorius.

Judge Thokozile Masipa in the North Guateng High Court sentenced Pistorius to five years in prison on the culpable homicide charge and five years suspended on the discharge of a firearm at a restaurant.

However NPA Spokesperson Nathi Mncube said they were happy that Pistorius is serving some jail time.

Mncube said we are going to study the judgement again and we will then do some research in the view of finding a case law that will either support or not support the decision to appeal.

“In the event that we find sufficient grounds to appeal as far as the case law is concerned we will then appeal the matter.  But in the event that we find that there are not sufficient grounds to appeal and that our decision cannot be fully supported we will then make a proper announcement within the next fourteen days” Mncube added.
