NUM on strike at Glencore Koornfontein Mine in Mpumalanga

The National Union of Mineworkers at Glencore Koornfontein Mine in Mpumalanga have embarked on a strike.

This is after talks between the union and the company reached a deadlock at the CCMA.

The strike is over pay of service per year.

Num Acting National Spokesperson Livhuwani Mammburu said Glencore is deviating from the same formula it is using at other operations like Tweefontein and TUGO.

Mammburu said this company is very arrogant because even when we were dealing with picketing rules we could not reach an agreement because they wanted to impose their own picketing rules.

Mammburu said the CCMA ended up imposing at least reasonable picketing rules to parties.

"We are being undermined and we will make sure they feel the pinch. We are also intending to apply for a secondary strike from other Glencore operations, Mammburu added.
