Three killed,two airlifted from R59 collision

Three people were killed on the R59 highway towards Vereeniging when a transporter vehicle and a BMW collided with each other.

Another two people were left with critical injuries and were airlifted from the scene.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said Paramedics that arrived on the scene found people and debris scattered across the highway. Both vehicles were found several meters apart from each other with the BMW almost burnt out completely.

Vermaak said five people sustained various injuries and paramedics had to act quickly to stabilise them on scene.

Vermaak said one of the critically injured patients suffered from a traumatic amputation while the other sustained severe chest injuries.

 Vermaak said the two critically injured patients were airlifted by AER24, ER24’s medical helicopter as well as another helicopter to hospitals in Johannesburg.

“The remainder of the patients were transported by ambulance to local hospitals Vermaak added.
