KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Weziwe Thusi has appealed for patience as police investigate the cause of a lethal fire, in Durban, that claimed eight lives at an orphanage.

Those who died due to the fire were children aged between eight and 17. Others were treated for smoke inhalation.

Trauma counselling is being provided by the KwaZulu-Natal Social Development Department at the Lakehaven/Zamani Child and Youth Care Centre.

The department’s Ncumisa Ndelu says they will be assisting the families of the victims for as long as they need.
