Two men accused of murdering a Metrorail train driver at the Netreg station in Bonteheuwel will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s court today.

Piet Botha was shot and killed in an apparent robbery on the platform on Monday.

Police acted on a tip-off to arrest the two suspects in neighbouring area of Bishop Lavis on Tuesday.

Metrorail’s Riana Scott explained that the long-serving train driver was brushing up his knowledge of the central lines at Netreg station when he was attacked.

Investigators say CCTV footage and witness accounts were essential in tracking Botha’s alleged killers.

Police say one of the two men arrested was found trying to conceal a firearm believed to be the murder weapon.
