The Western Province provincial government has welcomed the Auditor General’s clean audit of its financial affairs. The majority of municipalities in the province received clean audits from the Auditor General this week.

Western Cape MEC of Local Government Anton Bredell said the clean audits show a massive improvement, considering only five years ago not one municipality in the province received a positive appraisal.

The City of Cape Town is the only metro in the country to achieve a clean audit for this financial year.

Ministerial Spokesperson Daniel Johnson explains the province can be proud of the audit announcement as, “only 22 municipalities received clean audits, nationally. 11 of those are from the Western Cape.”

Moreover, 18 other municipalities in the province received unqualified audits.

Johnson believes the whole province stands to benefit from the Auditor General’s appraisal adding, “Sound financial management can aid service delivery in the province.”
