The Democratic Alliance said there have been 119 initiation deaths and only eleven people were convicted.

This was revealed in a parliamentary reply which was posed by the DA.

The party’s Research and Communications Officer Yaseen Carelse said these are murders and must be handled with the seriousness the police would address any other murder.

Carelse said the DA will call on the Police Minister Nkosinathi Nlteko to establish a specialized unit to track down on bogus initiation schools, because year after year deaths continue.

He added that the perpetrators need to face the might of the law because these are murders.
