Two alleged fraudsters arrested for defrauding cellphone retailers in Kimberley

Police in Kimberley arrested two suspects aged 27 and 33-years-old for defrauding two well known cellphone retail shops. 

The two used different Identity documents to defraud the retail shops.  The suspects have been charged with fraud and are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate Court soon. 

Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana said their arrest came after cellphone sales consultants in these two well-known retailers, noted from their contract account systems while processing the applications, which these suspects have been on a mission defrauding the cellphone retailers in different provinces around the country.

Tawana said one of the suspects was already blacklisted by the retailers, as he was already wanted for a similar crime of fraud which he had committed in Tzaneen, Johannesburg and East London.

Tawana said during our investigation we have found in the suspects’ possession different Identity documents and copies. Furthermore it was also revealed that on Saturday, 23 August 2014 they managed to obtain an expensive cellphone worth R11 000, with the very same fraudulent tactics.

“We also found them in possession of different sim cards and a stolen petrol card.The suspects are due to appear before the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court soon Tawana added.
