Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant in a statement said that National Minister of Transport Dipuo Peters has not come up with a long term solution to curb road deaths, and develop a safe and effective public transport.

This as Minister Peters gave a speech at the Global Road Safety Partnership Africa Summit where she focused on the draft new Scholar Transport policy to be available soon.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said Minister Peters has the opportunity to lead from the front against the scourge that is killing at least 17 000 people annually, nearly 3000 of them our children.

“This will require more than lip service to road safety with her recent speech indicating that she has not yet risen to this challenge. I sincerely hope she does, and soon, as South Africa’s children are paying a very high price indeed Grant added.
