Provincial Traffic Issues 714 Speeding Fines across Western Cape

Western Cape Traffic Authorities over the weekend conducted 26 roadblocks across the province of which a total of 2 625 vehicles were stopped and checked.

1 114 drivers were screened for alcohol and 36 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence for alcohol.

Provincial Spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Public Works Al-Ameen Kafaar said a total of 1 114 drivers were screened for driving under the influence of alcohol resulting in 36 arrests.

The highest breath alcohol reading was recorded in Swellendam at 1.16 mg/1 000 ml which was four times the legal limit of 0.24mg/1 000ml.

A total of 8 688 vehicles were screened for speeding of which 714 speeding offences were recorded.

296 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness. The fines amounted to R307 200.

Meanwhile during the roadblocks one person was arrested for reckless and negligent driving in Somerst West. 

One person was arrested for being in possession of dagga in Brackenfell and another was arrested also in Brackenfell for fraud.
