The National
Employers Association of South Africa on Wednesday said violent strikes in the
country have been aided by labour laws.
This prompted a
response from the Minister of Labour, Mildred Oliphant, who said the country’s
labour legislation was not to be blamed for the prolonged strikes.
However, in a
statement, Neasa retorted that the current labour laws are detrimental to sustainable
growth and development.
Neasa’s Chief
Executive Gerhard Papenfus explains the legislation stifles the employment
process.
Papenfus added,
“The current legislation leads to unemployment, the driver of poverty and
inequality. Society then displays their dissatisfaction through strikes; where
employers are unable to match workers’ demands.”
